Bluegrass Music with a Twist by The Acoustic Sound Hounds |
|
The Acoustic Sound Hounds Story Located in Kaufman County, Texas, just outside Dallas, the Acoustic Sound Hounds is a family with friends that love music. The group was formed out of fun, and began with Pam’s borrowing a mandolin. I guess I should introduce the group. First is Phil. He plays the bass and sometimes guitar and is the father of Pam. Pam is the mandolin player and wife of Jeff. Jeff plays rhythm guitar. The fourth player of the group is Wallace, uncle to Pam and brother to Phil. He plays guitar and harmonica. Craig joined the group as banjo and guitar player in January 2009. Craig is an accomplished musician and also plays bass guitar and drums for his church and other groups. Now back to where I was. About a year and a half ago Pam bought an inexpensive mandolin off the Internet. When it arrived it was then that she knew the mandolin was for her. She taught herself all that she could from reading books and listening to music. She wanted to learn more so she did what most people do and took a workshop. That wasn’t enough so she went to Garland, Texas and started picking on the square with other Bluegrass players. Pam and Jeff would go every chance they had and that perked up Jeff's’ interest in playing the guitar again. Now when Jeff was at work on the weekends Pam would come to our house and get her dad to play with her. They would have a great time for hours. Wallace, Pam’s uncle and Phil’s brother, would join in with them. It didn’t take long to realize that they had something going for them and that was talent. We would not have realized that we had all this talent in one family if Pam had not bought that mandolin. Since forming the group in Summer 2008, performances have included various Crandall, Kaufman, Ennis and Combine Festivals, the Bristol Opry and Bluegrass Show, the Cottonwood Baptist Church, the Mesquite Rodeo City Music Hall, Bill’s Records, Poor David’s Pub, the Sokol Hall in Ennis and live broadcasts from Canton’s KRDH True Country Radio and the Texas Renegade Radio Show on KNON 89.3 FM. |
